Wool Spinning Demonstrations
Saturday, August 23rd - 10 am - 4 pm

Spinning is one of the most ancient arts. It is a process where yarn is made by twisting together plant or animal fibers. Animal fibers like sheep's wooly angora, alpaca, llama, etc. are commonly used. This art form has been practiced for thousands of years since the times of early Egyptians.

The spinning wheels used today were developed in the late 1400's to early 1500's in Germany. New England housewives used those same spinning wheels during colonial times, and even today, to make yarn so as to knit clothing for their families.

Come see how yarn is made and the products that one can make or buy from our own Central Maine Highland spinning artists.
